Wyoming, home of Yellowstone National Park, earns the number one rank for air quality in the country. In fact, Wyoming scores 3rd for overall community and environment, with a low rate of violent crime, small number of children living in poverty, and the 8th best infectious disease control program in the country. Wyoming also boasts of a low level of health status disparity among residents, where the quality of personal health does not change much due to socioeconomic factors. Statistics also show that Wyoming has the 9th lowest proportion of residents living with diabetes at only 8.4 percent.

Problems with Wyoming tend to revolve around the rural nature of the state. Access to healthcare is the 4th lowest in the nation with only 103.7 primary care practitioners for every 100,000 residents. The state also reports that 9.1 percent of newborns are born at a low birthweight, a percentage higher than 43 other states. Interestingly enough, Wyoming claims the highest rate of occupational fatalities in the country, with 12 deaths on the job for every 100,000 workers. The state does enjoy a low prevalence of cancer, however, ranking as the 7th best state in terms of cancer related fatalities.
