In a recent study completed to identify health issues in Milwaukee, the community banded together and identified 5 key issues. Like many other places, Milwaukee wanted to focus on behavioral health and access to care to help address the growing rate of mental illness in this country. Mental health was, in fact, the most talked about medical issue facing the city of Milwaukee. Residents of Milwaukee also look for more attention to physical healthcare, such as exercise and nutrition, health insurance, and the high infant mortality rate plaguing the city.

Another problem identified was the recent rise in drug and alcohol abuse. Milwaukee has suffered plenty with the recent surge of opioids, and many members of the community are anxious to see those issues resolved, or at least a discerning attempt made to address the problems. Milwaukee residents also made plans to lower the cost of health care in the city and surrounding area, wanting to utilize non-MD practitioners such as Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners to lower the cost of medical bills. Plans were also made to increase the number of free clinics so the poorest can still enjoy basic access to healthcare.
