Located in the southern region of the United States is the State of Texas. In reference to square miles, Texas is the second largest state in the USA. On December 28, 1846, Texas was admitted into the Union. It is the 28th oldest state in the United States of America.

In December 2017, the United Health Foundation released America’s Health Rankings, an annual report that ranks the healthiest states in America. The report uses the World Health Organization’s definition of health. According to the World Health Organization, health is defined as “…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The report used four categories to determine the healthiest states. The determinants were Behaviors, Community & Environment, Policy, and Clinical Care. In the report, Texas was listed as the 34th healthiest state in the USA, a low grade. Texas was ranked very low in all the model categories except for Behavior. In the Behavior category, Texas was ranked 15.

Despite its low grade in the United Health Foundation’s report, Texas provides its inhabitants many medical resources. Among the 50 States and Washington, D.C., Texas is home the largest number of hospitals. Texas is also listed among the states with the largest number of primary care physicians. Depending on individuals’ medical needs and preferences, Texas is an ideal place to reside.
