Nevada has achieved a health policy score of 45th in the country. A large part of this is attributed to the lowest public health budget in the nation coupled with the 6th highest rate of uninsured residents. Nevada only spends $39 per person each year in efforts to improve public health, and this low commitment to funding does not bode well for chances of improvement. As a state, Nevada has the 2nd highest rate of violent crimes in the U.S. and also the 2nd lowest rate of high school students reaching graduation.

Access to healthcare is another significant problem facing Nevada. The state scores 46th in the nation for number of primary care doctors per capita, with only 104.3 primary care physicians for every 100,000 residents. Nevada’s most positive health statistic is that it has a relatively low number of preventable hospitalizations, but even still this ranking is only 13th best in the country. Also, Nevada has the lowest incidence rate of salmonella in the U.S. and the 2nd best score for controlling infectious disease. The bustling foodservice industry in and around Las Vegas has clearly worked out all the kinks in supplying an almost endless amount of safe to eat food to visitors from all over the globe.
