Arizona is a southwestern state positioned between California, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, and the United Mexican States. On February 14, Arizona became the 48th state to be admitted into the Union when it was formed from Arizona Territory. It is the 3rd youngest state in the USA. Arizona is characterized by the blistering desert landscape in its southern region and beautiful piney mountains to the north.

On April 17, 1984, then Governor of Arizona Bruce Babbit approved the Arizona Good Samaritan Law. In general, the law offers legal protection to persons who give reasonable medical attention to persons believed to injured, ill, in peril, or otherwise incapacitated. The State of Arizona Good Samaritan Law pertains to licensed and certified health care providers, licensed ambulance attendants, drivers, or pilots, or any other person who renders emergency care. If the aforementioned persons offer emergency care gratuitously and in good faith, they will not be liable for any civil or other damages resulting from any act done while rendering emergency care unless the person is guilty of gross negligence.

In the latter half of 2017, there was much controversy surrounding Arizona’s failure to expand its Good Samaritan Law and failure to equip and protect individuals who are likely to encounter overdose victims. Today, a law to protect the aforementioned peoples is not in existence although the controversy remains.
